2 Years

A red trainee card lasts two years from issue and cannot be renewed or extended. If it lapses without an NVQ, you go back to square one.

0 Exams

The NVQ Level 2 is achieved by on-site evidence and professional discussion with your assessor — no classroom, no written exams.

5 Years

Your blue Competent Operator card is valid for five years and renewable — the qualification that proves you can operate for a living.

Common Questions

Red to Blue FAQs

My red card is about to expire — is it too late?

The sooner you call the better. If your card is still in date we can usually register you and get evidence gathering started quickly. If it has already lapsed, call us anyway — we’ll talk you through your options honestly.

Do I have to go back to a classroom or sit exams?

No. The NVQ Level 2 is a workplace qualification. Your assessor observes you operating on your own site and builds the portfolio with you. There are no written exams.

How long does the upgrade take?

It depends on how often you’re on the machine, but most working operators complete the evidence in a matter of weeks. We’ll give you a realistic timescale when you register.

How much does it cost?

Call us on 07934 141467 for a straight price for your category — and ask about group rates if several operators on your site need upgrading at the same time.

Can my employer book this for several operators at once?

Yes — we regularly run multiple NVQs on the same site in one set of visits, which keeps the cost per operator down and the disruption minimal.
